The lack of a practice shooting range where tactical training and combat shooting exercises of company/battalion level units would be carried out is one of the pressing problems of the Army of Montenegro.
This was announced by representatives of the Army at the session of the Defense and Security Council.
Today, the 35th session of the Defense and Security Council was held in Villa Gorica, which was chaired by the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, and the work was attended by the President of the Assembly Andrija Mandić and Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, and by invitation, the Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović, the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro , Brigadier General Zoran Lazarevic, advisor to the President Dejan Vukšić and advisor to the Prime Minister Todor Goranović.
"At today's session, the Report on the situation in the Army for 2023 was presented, as well as reports on the participation of members of the Army of Montenegro in international forces, peace missions and international exercises in 2023. The conclusion was reached at the session that the Army has a clear vision and that during 2023, it implemented plans that enabled the improvement of capabilities, creating a sustainable system, which, as part of the collective security system, is capable of responding to security challenges and threats with allies unit of the Army of Montenegro reached the required level", it was announced after the Council session.
The members of the council, it was added, agree with the proposal to amend the Law on the Army, which will increase the age limit for soldiers to remain in the service.
"Members of the Council were informed that in 2023, the Army of Montenegro carried out 20 exercises at all command levels. It was highlighted that 922 members of the Croatian Armed Forces participated in the exercises last year, which is about 2,8 times more than in 2022. As a key challenge, the representatives of the Army pointed out the lack of a shooting range where tactical training and target shooting exercises of company/battalion units would be carried out. The Council for Defense and Security proposed to increase allocations for modernization of units and improvement of the financial status of employees in the Army of Montenegro," the announcement reads.
At the session, the members of the Council were informed about the possibilities of engaging members of the Army of Montenegro as part of the European Union Military Assistance Mission to Support Ukraine (EUMAM) through bilateral engagement with the Republic of Slovenia.
"Where it is specifically emphasized that all activities within the mentioned mission will be carried out on the territory of one of the countries of the European Union and that not a single member of the Army of Montenegro will enter the territory of Ukraine. The approved proposal for a decision on the engagement of members of the Army of Montenegro in the mentioned mission Council for defense and security will be submitted to the Parliament of Montenegro for consideration and decision. At today's session, the Council also considered proposals for appointments, dismissals and regular promotion of officers of the Army of Montenegro of retired military personnel. The Council for Defense and Security also considered other issues within its jurisdiction at today's session," the announcement reads.
