"We changed three governments, and for a year we literally did not have a foreign minister. That, in my opinion, is a very important factor. We are also witnessing the cohabitation between the Government and the President of the State"

The state of the Montenegrin diplomatic network is quite worrying, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, adding that the country lacks 27 ambassadors.

In an interview with Montenegrin Television, he said that he expected to resolve a long-standing problem by reaching an agreement with the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

Ibrahimović said that it is unacceptable that the Montenegrin mission at NATO does not have a head, and the same situation exists in New York.

"Also, it is a devastating fact that we do not have a single ambassador in the region. We don't have ambassadors in Croatia, Slovenia, Kosovo, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania and North Macedonia," said Ibrahimović.

He said that a prompt reaction must be made and that the state of the diplomatic network is quite worrying.

"This obliges me, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, to react promptly and fill our diplomatic and consular missions as soon as possible," Ibrahimović said, RTCG reports.

All this is a consequence, as Ibrahimović said, of political instability in Montenegro.

"We changed three governments, and for a year we literally did not have a foreign minister. That, in my opinion, is a very important factor. We are also witnessing the cohabitation between the Government and the President of the State", said Ibrahimović.

According to him, this cohabitation dates back to 2020 and is dominant to a greater or lesser extent.

"However, it somehow culminated when there was a political passing between the president and the prime minister," believes Ibrahimović.

He said that he has called a meeting with Milatović for tomorrow, where he will try to find a solution through a conversation, while respecting principles and standards.

"I believe that both I and the president of the state are aware that we will rise above some other interests and that our priority will be the state interest. We urgently need to fill our diplomatic and consular missions", said Ibrahimović.

Asked what will be the priority in his work, Ibrahimović replied that the staff must be strengthened, of course with a professional attitude.

"We must educate our diplomatic staff and in the coming period assemble a team that will respond to very demanding challenges when it comes to foreign policy," concluded Ibrahimović.
