Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović will talk tomorrow with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen about, as "Vijesti" has learned, "Montenegro's loss of focus from the European agenda, damaged good-neighborly relations and non-transparent passing of laws".
Milatović will talk with von der Leyen on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC forum in Prague.
The interlocutor of "Vijesti" from Milatović's cabinet said that the topic of the meeting will also be political influence on the Public Service.
"What is worrying is the non-transparency of the competition for the general director of RTCG, but also the claims of numerous candidates for that position that the public is excluded from the entire process, and that the Council of RTCG is not acting according to the law," he said.
He said that the recent receipt of a positive Report on the Fulfillment of Interim Benchmarks (IBAR) in the area of the rule of law (Chapters 23 and 24), "as well as numerous controversies related to the election of the director of the RTCG" obliges this issue to be finally resolved in a transparent manner.
"Everything that is happening shows what was the real intention of the changes to the Law on Public Service, which reduced the criteria for selecting the director of RTCG from a valid 10 to 5 years of work experience, which President Milatović returned to the parliament," he reminded.
On June 9, Milatović returned the Law on the National Public Broadcaster - Public Media Service of Montenegro to the Parliament, but the Parliament adopted it again on June 19.
In the explanation of his decision, Milatović stated that he believes that the adopted solution ignores the importance of the public service and calls into question its editorial independence, especially appreciating the views of the expert public on the matter in question.
The parliamentary majority, at the proposal of the New Serbian Democracy and the Democratic People's Party at the end of June, two days after receiving the IBAR, adopted the Resolution on the genocide in Jasenovac, Mauthausen and Dachau, which is why Croatia, which is a member of the EU, reacted strongly and warned against possible blockade of the European road to Montenegro. At the end of July, Croatia declared NSD leader and President of the Parliament of Montenegro Andrija Mandić, DNP leader and MP Milan Knežević, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Democrat leader Aleksa Bečić as persons non-grata.
After the adoption of the Resolution, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, canceled his visit to Montenegro. Instead of visiting Montenegro, Mišel invited Milatović to come to Brussels on July 2.
