The Government of Montenegro wants to further strengthen close ties with its neighbors, which is why it has defined regional cooperation as one of its foreign policy priorities, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović at today's meeting with Albanian Ambassador Žaklina Peto.
"Montenegro and Albania nurture friendly, good-neighborly relations and cooperation, further strengthened by the NATO alliance, as well as by a common European perspective," Ibrahimović said, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He expressed his satisfaction with the dynamics of bilateral contacts, as well as political dialogue at a high level, which, he said, "additionally confirms the mutual commitment and desire for interstate relations between Montenegro and Albania to be the best possible". In this context, he assessed efforts to strengthen economic cooperation as a prerequisite for the further development of our region as particularly important.
Ambassador Peto said that the joint vision of development and joining the European Union significantly contributes to the excellent bilateral relations between Montenegro and Albania, according to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Along these lines, she pointed out that Montenegro's progress towards full membership was confirmed through a positive IBAR incentive for Albania as well as other countries in the region. She also pointed out that there is a willingness to further improve dynamic cooperation, especially in the fields of energy, infrastructural connection, as well as culture.
