Snežana Babović, the candidate of the Turn Movement for councilor in the upcoming local elections in Podgorica, said that public policies in the capital must be created in accordance with the interests of citizens, not the expectations of officials.
"Until we change that, instead of water, sewerage and roads, the leadership will develop the party's infrastructure. In order to experience a turnaround in this field as a city, we insist on improving public information about public hearings and consultations, as well as introducing a model of early consultations before the development of significant infrastructure projects. All this should be rounded off by the election of governing bodies in local communities at assemblies," said Babović.
He adds that in this way the system would be subordinated to the citizens of the city and not to the officials, which would make it better, more open and the citizens would perceive it more as their own.
"The creation of public policies in the capital city is insufficiently transparent, that is, the public is most often excluded from the early stages of planning and development of solutions for infrastructural and other projects, which often results in bad solutions or solutions that do not suit all residents. Local communities, despite many years of promises, still do not function properly, so this form of direct participation of citizens in the creation and implementation of policies is completely unused, and often politically abused. and not exclusively from the opinion of officials, which is subordinated to their party interest," concluded Babović.
