The mayors of Cetinje and Gaeta, Nikola Đurašković and Kristijan Lećeze, today laid a wreath at the Monument to the Heroes of the Christmas Uprising in memory of the brave fighters who gave their lives for the right, honor and freedom of Montenegro, announced Đurašković's Public Relations Service.
As announced, the laying of the wreath, which took place as part of the official visit of the delegation of the city of Gaeta to the Capital of Cetinje, is a symbol of friendship and solidarity between the people of Montenegro and Italy.
"The mayors paid tribute to the heroes of the Christmas Uprising, emphasizing the importance of remembering the past and preserving the common values of freedom, peace and unity," the announcement states.
"We remind you that in the period from 1919 to 1922, Gaeta provided refuge to the Montenegrin army in exile, after the agreement between the Montenegrin and Italian governments in March 1919. Hospitality, solidarity and respect marked the stay of our army and politicians in exile," it says in announcement.
