The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, Antonio Tajani, will arrive tomorrow on a working visit to Montenegro.
As announced by the Italian embassy in Montenegro, Tajani will meet with the highest representatives of the government in order to emphasize Italy's constant commitment to the growth, stability and perspective of the European integration of the Western Balkan region.
Tajani will meet in Podgorica with the Presidents of the State and Government, Jakov Milatović and Milojko Spajić, and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović.
Tajani said that the Western Balkans is a priority of Italian foreign policy to which they pay constant attention, and at the multilateral level, chairing the group of Friends of the Balkans, with whom he will meet again in New York in a few days.
"Through working visits and business forums that are held with all the surrounding countries, we are opening new ways to strengthen exports and investments of Italian companies," added Tajani.
He said that they are working on further strengthening historical ties with Montenegro.
"By creating a special joint committee, we are fully implementing the Strategic Cooperation Agreement that the former president (Silvio) Berlusconi signed in 2010. The two shores of the Adriatic are getting closer and closer," said Tajani.
According to him, the integration of infrastructure and the electricity market are the driving force for growth, that is, an extraordinary bridge that brings the Balkans closer to the European Union.
"The desired doubling of the submarine transmission line built by the company Terna will contribute to Montenegro becoming a true energy hub of the region and will strengthen security of supply," added Tajani, who will open the work of the "Round Table on Energy Italy and Montenegro" in Podgorica.
Tajani will be on a working visit to North Macedonia tomorrow, where, as announced, he will meet with Presidents of the State and Parliament Gordan Silijanovska Davkov and Afrim Gashi, with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski and with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Timco Mućunski.
Tajani said that North Macedonia is a key partner in securing the future of prosperity and stability for the entire Western Balkan region.
"We are working to overcome all obstacles on Skopje's path to joining the EU. There is a great potential for further strengthening of our bilateral relations, starting with cooperation in strategic sectors and sectors with high added value," concluded Tajani.
