Montenegro has a real chance to become the next member of the European Union (EU), it was announced at the meeting between the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ervin Ibrahimović, and the newly appointed head of the EU Delegation in Montenegro, Johan Satler.
Ibrahumović, as announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), pointed to the progress achieved on the European path, pointing out that Montenegrin society has shown maturity and readiness to be part of the family of developed democracies.
"Montenegro went a step further. The positive report on the fulfillment of the temporary benchmarks is an encouragement, but also an obligation, above all to the citizens, who strongly support Montenegro's accession to the EU", believes Ibrahimović.
This, he added, is at the same time a strong wind at the back of this Government, to continue on the path of reforms, until the achievement of the ambitious but realistic goal of the country becoming the 28th member of the EU.
Satler assessed that the progress that Montenegro has achieved so far in European integration is exceptional.
He, as stated, expressed his belief that Montenegro will remain fully committed to its European future, through the full affirmation of European values and the further development of Montenegrin society.
"Your results so far are promising, and we will continue to be your partner in fulfilling the obligations from the European agenda. We have an intense period ahead of us and still have a lot of work to do, but Montenegro is on a great path and I hope that it will maintain that pace", believes Satler.
In the conversation, as the MFA said, opinions were exchanged on current global challenges, and Montenegro's 100% compliance with the EU's common foreign and security policy was welcomed.
