The group of deputies of the Bosniak Party submitted today to the parliamentary procedure the proposal for a resolution on the genocide in Šahovići.
The proposal was signed by all six deputies of that party.
The resolution proposal on the genocide in Šahovići, as they announced, was initiated by the Committee to mark the centenary of the genocide in Šahovići, headed by Rifat Fejzić, president of the Islamic Community in Montenegro, and academician Šerbo Rastoder, vice-president.
"There is no true confrontation with the past until we talk about all the crimes that happened and that burden a more prosperous future for all our citizens. A prerequisite for better relations is the determination of responsibility and a clear condemnation of all these crimes. The massacre that took place in Šahovići, in a peacetime period, is a great wound and pain for every Bosniak, which is still fresh today, 100 years after that crime, and certainly deserves to be clearly defined by this society, to be marked , but also to get its place in the collective learning and memory of all citizens of Montenegro, as an expression of the civilized attitude towards this crime, such crimes in general, but also out of reverence for the victims and respect for their families and descendants," said BS.
They expect MPs from other parties to "behave responsibly towards this issue" and support the resolution.
"This year marks the centenary of the genocide and we believe that it is high time to institutionally condemn the massacre in Šahovići, based on indisputable historical facts. The Bosniak party, as the legitimate representative of the Bosniak people in the Parliament of Montenegro, represents above all the interests of the Bosniak people who in the last elections showed a high level of confidence in his support and gave a mandate to represent him politically in Montenegro, but also appreciating the interest of the Bosniak people in a wider context, he will persist in the intention that the said resolution will get the necessary majority, because we believe that there is no true confrontation with the past while clearly crimes such as the terrible massacre in Šahovići are not condemned and institutionally given an adequate place in history textbooks", the announcement concludes.
