Montenegro will continue to justify its role as a reliable NATO ally in the region with a concrete contribution, said Defense Minister Dragan Krapović in a conversation with NATO Assistant Secretary General Boris Ruge.
As announced by the Ministry of Defense, Krapović emphasized the importance of unity and determination of the Euro-Atlantic community and its partners, in the context of dealing with threats originating from all strategic directions and domains.
He said that complex global security events are also reflected on the regional level, citing the example of the Western Balkans, where the situation is peaceful but prone to destabilization.
That is why, according to Krapović, the presence of the international community, primarily NATO and the European Union (EU), is particularly important.
Krapović said that this sends a strong political signal that NATO and the entire international community remain committed to preserving the stability of this region.
"The minister added that Montenegro will continue to justify its role as a reliable NATO ally in the region with a concrete contribution," the statement said.
Krapović emphasized that the Government's priority is maintaining good neighborly relations and strengthening regional cooperation.
"And that Montenegro uses its position to promote the European and Euro-Atlantic future of the Western Balkans, as the only guarantor of long-term peace and prosperity in the region," added Krapović.
Ruge, as stated, pointed out that Montenegro is a valued NATO ally and thanked for the contribution it provides through participation in NATO missions, operations and activities.
"He welcomed the role of Montenegro as a factor of stability in the Western Balkan region and emphasized the importance of vigilance of the NATO alliance and coordinated action with other international actors on the ground, such as the EU, as the best prevention of destabilization," said the Ministry of Defense.
The announcement also states that Ruge emphasized the importance of full implementation of the decisions made at the Washington Summit, in order to preserve the credibility of the Alliance in complex geopolitical circumstances.
