Defense Minister Dragan Krapović called for a meeting of the Council for Security and Defense to be scheduled as soon as possible and to elect a new Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro.
"Vijesti" two days ago, referring to unofficial information, announced that the Chief of the General Staff, Brigadier General Zoran Lazarevic, sent the head of state and the chairman of the Council, Jakov Milatovic, a request to "accept and sign" the decision on his dismissal from the head of the VCG, which proposed by Krapović at the end of August.
In a statement, the minister welcomed Lazarevic's "gesture of responsibility".
"I myself, on several occasions, warned that the defense sector and the Army of Montenegro should not tolerate daily politics and should not campaign for local elections through the defense system. If in the previous period there was anything related to this entire procedure and unclear, I believe that this kind of gesture by Brigadier General Zoran Lazarevic has put an end to all dilemmas and possible misunderstandings," Krapović said.
He says that the seriousness and responsibility of all authorities is urgently needed.
"I appeal that a session of the Council for Defense and Security be scheduled as soon as possible and that a decision be made on the dismissal of the current Chief of the General Staff, as well as that a decision be made on the appointment of a new Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro and thereby ensure the smooth functioning of the Army of Montenegro and ensures continuity and a functional chain of command," concluded Krapović.
