Democratic Montenegro announced that the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) suffered a setback in the local elections in Gusinje, held on Sunday.
DPS announced earlier today that they received more support in the elections in Gusinje than in last year's elections, and that the Democrats "managed to barely get one mandate".
"Imagine the irony, they are trying to convince us that the fall from 882 votes to 435 is actually a success. That the matter is serious, it is serious, because this is not an ordinary fall, this is a real political flood of a party that held power for 30 years with the help of criminal clans and used every possible way to stay at the top. DPS has fallen so low that the SD of Damir Šehović has won more mandates than they have for decades. This is historic defeat and nothing can hide that fact," announced Democratic Montenegro.
They also add that there is no such PR, false statements "that can cover up what everyone sees – DPS is finished".
"And how will it not be, respected citizens, when their officials are deeply connected to crime. The Drešaj brothers, known for founding a criminal organization, have maintained close ties with the top of the DPS for years, as evidenced by the photos that have surfaced these days. And not only that - Drešaj from the photo even heard from Damir Mandić seven times on the night of Duško Jovanović's murder. Do you think it is a coincidence that, according to the official indictments, these calls came exactly at: 00:08:23, 00:11: 24, 00:31:04, 00:39:22, 01:16:59, 01:17:12 and 01:18:40 hours? Everything is clear to every citizen here - DPS is connected to the darkest parts of the criminal underworld." the Democrats said.
They also add that the former director of the Police Administration, Slavko Stojanović, whom they stated is a member of the DPS, "publicly admits that he ordered a truck full of smuggled cigarettes to be let through."
"So, the people who were supposed to protect the law, directly violated it in the service of criminal structures. That is why it is not surprising that you are the past. A party whose roots are in corruption, crime and injustice cannot be the future of Montenegro and Podgorica. The citizens see this clearly , and that is why they have already started to send you where you belong - to history. But this process is not over - on September 29th, we will not save you. Not even those who together with you destroyed the will of the citizens of Podgorica ", concludes the response.
