All war crimes must be prosecuted and guilt established. In addition to the need to satisfy justice and thus show respect for the victims, it is also a condition for healthy and good relations between neighbors in the region and the foundation of a peaceful and happy future.
The Ministry of Justice announced that this was the message of today's meeting between the relevant minister Bojan Božović and Serž Bramerac, the chief prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts in The Hague.
Božović said that Montenegro and the Mechanism for International Criminal Courts are "on the same path", that the goal of both is to investigate every war crime and put an end to it with a judicial epilogue.
"Besides that ethical imperative and need, this is an important task for us and because it is a condition to close our negotiation process with the EU," said Božović.
The minister emphasized the "unanimity of the Government" when it comes to solving the issue of war crimes. In this sense, as announced, the expert assistance of the Mechanism would be of great importance for Montenegro.
Bramerc promised to support the Montenegrin judiciary and said that cooperation should be specified in each individual case, where there is a need, the statement added.
"It would be good if you cooperated with the neighbors in this regard. In this way, you will put an end to the problems of the past. After that, you can turn to building good neighborly relations and prosperity", said Bramerc.
Božović agreed with that position and pointed out that, in this sense, the main goal of Montenegro is to discover and sanction the culprit for every war crime.
