The Ministry of Defense announced that today the relevant minister, Dragan Krapović, sent a letter to the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, with an appeal to schedule a meeting of the Defense and Security Council as soon as possible, in order to make the necessary decisions.
First of all, Krapović stated, the session should be scheduled for the purpose of dismissing the current Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro, Brigadier General Zoran Lazarevic, in order to enable the appointment of a new one.
"In this regard, I remind you that, as a responsible man and minister, I proposed an officer who should replace Brigadier General Zoran Lazarevic as the Chief of the General Staff of the Army of Montenegro", stated Krapović.
He reminded Milatović that the current Chief of the General Staff agrees with the dismissal, as he stated in his recent letter to the President.
"Of course, the decision is fully within the competence of the Council for Defense and Security, and I would not like to interfere in its adoption, except in the part of the competences that belong to me according to the law," emphasized Krapović.
He underlined that the Army urgently needs personnel reform in accordance with strategic documents and assessments of the service's needs for rejuvenation, and that any further postponement of the session of the Defense and Security Council would have a negative impact on the situation in the Croatian Armed Forces, the chain of command, as well as on the fulfillment of obligations arising from the missions of the VCG.
