Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić announced that at today's session of the executive power, a decision was made to give consent to the Municipality of Berane for the construction of a monument to the former Metropolitan of Montenegrin and Littoral Amfilohi, who died in 2020.
"Vijesti" previously announced that ministers from the Bosniak Party and the Albanian parties left the session, due to the Government's intention to approve the erection of the monument. This was confirmed to the list by two participants of today's session.
"Just as during the adoption of the new just Law on Freedom of Religion in the Parliament of Montenegro, this time as well, I had the honor of presiding over the session of the Government of Montenegro where the proposal of the Minister of Culture and Media, Dr. Tamara Vujović, was adopted and the decision to give consent was made for the construction of a monument to Metropolitan Amfilohi Radović of Montenegro. I personally had the privilege of sharing numerous conversations with him, which for me, like for many, were more than just a conversation and an ordinary meeting," Bečić said.
He says that Amfilohi's role goes beyond the boundaries of ecclesiastical and theological issues, because "he was a bridge between different epochs, cultures and traditions, dedicated to the renewal of spiritual values and the preservation of the soul of Montenegro".
"His mission was bigger than one life, it was a search for a deeper understanding of our being and existence, for the preservation of our spirit, tradition and heritage," he adds.
He also states that Amfilochius' name was known and respected in world intellectual and spiritual circles.
"His activity was not only local, but universal, he connected Montenegro with the wider world, strengthening our country not only as a cultural, but also as a moral force on the international stage. His life and work are not just the story of one man - it is a story about all of Montenegro, about our roots and hopes. His legacy lives on through all of us, through every thought, through every act that reminds us of how important it is to stay true to our values, but at the same time open to the world Amfilohije will be a permanent reminder of his strength, his wisdom and his love for Montenegro and religion," concluded Bečić.
