The four councilors of the Cetinje parliament who left the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) yesterday should join the Party of European Progress (SEP) of former Prime Minister Duško Marković, "Vijesti" has learned unofficially.
Sonja Radojičić, Aleksa Bastać, Miloš Ražnatović and Stefan Vuletić left DPS, as confirmed yesterday.
Yesterday, "Vijesti" tried to contact Ražnatović, as the former head of DPS in the capital, but he did not respond to calls and messages from journalists.
The head of the DPS, Danijel Živković, said that the party has no information why the councilors left them, adding that "everyone has the right to their own view of the political situation, both in Cetinje and in Montenegro."
"There is no special information that could be added, nor is there any need to present internal matters concerning our politics and party. We wish luck to those who decided to go their own way, and we continue to work in Cetinje, Podgorica, and other places in Montenegro," he said at a press conference in the state parliament.
"Radio Cetinje" announced that yesterday's DPS councilors will form a club in the capital's Assembly, which will be called "For the European Capital". They state that, after the request for the formation of the club is sent to the parliament, the decision will be announced at the session scheduled for tomorrow.
Radojičić is the former director of the General Hospital "Danilo I" in Cetinje, Bastać was a member of the Presidency of the DPS Youth Council, Ražnatović was the former deputy mayor of Cetinje, and Vuletić was the former head of the DPS Youth Council of the capital.
The SEP, to which the four should transfer, was formed at the end of June by a former high official of the DPS, Marković. That party has since formed committees/initiative committees in several municipalities, but not in the capital.
After the departure of the councilors, DPS was left with 10 representatives in the Cetinje parliament. The Social Democrats, who have one councilor, are in opposition to that party.
In the elections held in February 2022, DPS lost power in the capital after 17 years. Although they were on the threshold of an agreement with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to form an administration, the negotiations failed. DPS needed three mandates to remain in power (parliament has 33 seats).
During the negotiations, Ražnatović resigned from the leadership position in the party, saying that it was an "obligation in accordance with the Statute of the DPS".
The new government was formed by eight representatives of the SDP and three Old Guards of the Liberal Alliance of Montenegro, and they are supported from the parliamentary benches by four councilors of the Civic Movement URA and three Democrats.
