Podgorica, as the capital and largest city, has an exceptional tourist potential that is still not sufficiently utilized. Every year, our city attracts an increasing number of foreign tourists, especially during the summer months, but unfortunately, they are often left to their own devices because the tourist offer is not adequately designed. There is not enough information for tourists, especially in English, and key cultural assets such as Stara Varoš are not adequately organized and marked. It's time to change that," said Snežana Babović, a candidate for councilor from the "Upheaval - It Can't Be Done Like This - Srđan Perić" list.
She said that Preokret recognizes that Podgorica can and must become a recognizable tourist destination, which will attract not only passing tourists, but also those who want to stay, explore and experience the richness of our cultural and natural heritage.
"Our plan for the improvement of tourism includes concrete steps that will transform Podgorica into a destination where visitors come specifically," said Babović.
She added that she will initiate the creation of a new long-term strategy for the development of tourism in the Capital City.
"Which, in cooperation with interested parties, will clearly define tourism products and directions of development, in accordance with contemporary trends in tourism. We will also advocate for Podgorica to get a unique tourism brand, by which our city will be recognizable in all segments of the city's promotion, which will increase recognition on the international market. We will also launch the opening of a tourist information point on Independence Square, where tourists will be able to get all the necessary information in several languages. Such a tourist point will also have a souvenir shop and a shop with local products."
Babović said that in order to promote the cultural and historical heritage of Preokret, she will advocate for the Museum of Old Podgorica to be located in the very center of the city.
"In which tourists and the people of Podgorica will be able to travel through time and learn about the rich history of our city. In parallel, we will demand that the capital resolutely embarks on the revitalization and promotion of Stara Varoša and Durres, as two authentic settlements that should serve as a testimony historical development of Podgorica".
The plan, as the Preokreta candidate for councilor points out, is for the capital city to create and place signposts throughout the city, which would direct tourists to historical sites.
"Also, we will initiate the installation of multilingual information boards at all important natural and historical sites, along with the integration of QR codes, which will enable visitors to learn more about our heritage, in a language they understand. When it comes to event tourism, Uorokret will require through the city budget greater support for the organization of events that promote Podgorica's identity, including cultural and gastronomic events, in order to provide tourists with an authentic experience of our culture what our city offers as a tourist destination. Our goal is clear: Podgorica must be recognized as an attractive tourist destination. Tourism is not only an opportunity for the promotion of the city, but also for the creation of new jobs and the economic well-being of all citizens of the capital city's key priorities, and we will work diligently to make the vision of Podgorica a modern, open and tourist-attractive destination a reality," concludes Babović.
