The illegal reading of private correspondence between a lawyer and his client to an independent judiciary would be sufficient reason for the dismissal of the chief special prosecutor Milivoj Katnic, but in Montenegro it is a reason for the introduction of surveillance measures and confiscation of my passport and the implementation of secret surveillance measures against Goran Rodić and mounting an investigation against that honorable and uncompromised man, the president of the Democratic People's Party (DNP) and representative of the Democratic Front (DF) Milan Kneževic told "Vijesta".
He announced this after they "Vijesti" announced that the Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) requested that his and Andrija Mandic's passports be confiscated because text messages between Knežević and his lawyer Goran Rodić, found in the lawyer's confiscated phone.
"I guess after the publication of my correspondence with the lawyer Rodić, which Katnić refers to by asking that my passport be revoked, it is clear to everyone in Montenegro that Goran Rodić was rigged with a trial for accepting to defend me. And using that rigged trial against the lawyer Rodić, Milivoje Katnić is taking away his phones, computers and laptops in order to actually have insight into my and his communication. Of course, although this is illegal, Katnić publicly, in the request to confiscate my passport, refers to having read our private correspondence from June 20, in which, according to his interpretation, we planned to obstruct the proceedings. That's why I was forced to make our correspondence available to the entire Montenegrin public, and let the citizens of Montenegro assess what kind of destruction we were planning," Knežević told "Vijesta".
Knežević explained that he canceled Rodić's power of attorney 'because of the unprecedented chase and rigged process against him'.
He assessed that the lawyer found himself in such a situation only because he was his defense attorney.
"In the coming days, I will decide who will represent me in the further course of the proceedings. What is certain is that, regardless of the obstacles I encounter, I will not ask for a postponement of the hearing, even though I have the right to do so... I requested a copy of the case files for 19 more May, and I received them only on July 10, nine days before the scheduled start of the trial. Since the indictment was filed on April 15, I have been encountering all possible forms of obstruction related to the inspection of the case files, because the obvious intention is that at the first hearing the defense will be in an unequal position compared to the prosecution," he said.
