The Vice-President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mirsad Nurković said that at the meeting of the President of the Parliament Andrije Mandić with the Vice-Presidents, where they were informed that the proposal for the new logo of the Parliament "is under the competence of the Secretary General and him as the President of the Parliament".
Nurković stated this in response to the claims of the president of the Democratic People's Party, Milan Knežević, that Nurković's statement that Mandić made the decision on his own initiative and that he did not consult with other MPs regarding the proposal for the Parliament's logo is incorrect.
"In fact, it is true that the President of the Assembly and the Vice-Presidents had a meeting before the very beginning of the Assembly session in Cetinje, but not in the form of a meeting with the collegues of the President of the Assembly. The explanation and mention of King Aleksandar Karađorđević and linking the Assembly building with it was not mentioned at that meeting. We were given the explanation that it is within the competence of the general secretary and him as the president of the Assembly, without any question whether we agree or not, and without any proposal to vote on the same at that meeting, which primarily related to the organization and course of the upcoming Assembly session in Cetinje", said Nurković.
He added that if a vote had been taken on it at any body of the Assembly, he would have been against it.
"First of all, because it is not in agreement with the citizens of Cetinje that it should be like that, and especially after linking the parliamentary logo with Aleksandar Karađorđević, under whose boots Montenegro lost its independence, but also the Montenegrin and Bosniak people and some other peoples in Montenegro and in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, they lost both their name and their surname and fell under unprecedented repression, which was carried out until 1945. Also, the symbolism of the parliamentary building in the history of Cetinje and Montenegro was not in focus before we heard the same from two sides, one from the President of the Assembly Mandić, and the other from the representatives of DPS and URA, who are from Cetinje, because of that and because of what was said before, my reaction was also absent at the meeting mentioned by Mr. Knežević. After all, the first time I was asked what I thought about the logo, I stated my position clearly and decisively," said Nurković.
