Regarding the announcement of Democratic Montenegro, published on Tuesday, October 22, under the title "Democrats: Pešić abuses honorable judges, let him sign the next time he attacks us politically", the Association of Judges, although it pointed out that it will no longer advertise on this occasion, nevertheless considered it necessary to react due to, as they say, the accusations made, and after the held session of the Assembly of the Association's delegates.
We transmit the reaction of the Association in its entirety.
"The Association of Judges of Montenegro informs the public that the Association has about 200 members, out of a total of 250 Montenegrin judges, and that the Association has several committees that deal with the improvement of the work of the Association, among which is the Committee for Public Relations. The members of this committee are elected from by the Assembly of Judges of Montenegro, which is made up of delegates of all courts in the country. It is in the exclusive competence of this commission to communicate with the public and it does so on behalf of the Association of Judges of Montenegro. Therefore, Judge Miodrag Pešić is not the creator of that announcement, so it cannot be nor the signatory thereof, because all judges who are members of the Association of Judges of Montenegro stand behind the announcement of October 21.10.2024, XNUMX, in which we pointed out that populist comments undermine the rule of law.
The Association of Judges expresses its regret over the fact that a political entity does not want to accept the fact that judges want to build a better system, in which the citizens of Montenegro would exercise their rights in the most efficient way possible, and that they are never more united in this, as the data indicates that, since the current president assumed the position of president of the Association of Judges (October 2023), the Association has doubled its membership.
The Association of Judges will not deal with the elaboration of specific cases, as the political entity Democratic Montenegro once again asserts itself as a right, in which way the trials are brought out of the courtroom, and which with its new statement shows that it does not understand the essence of the Association's previous statement, nor the basic principles of the rule of law. .
On the other hand, the Association of Judges of Montenegro once again calls on the political entity Democrats to, through participation in the legislative branch, contribute to the improvement of legal solutions that will enable the strengthening of the independence of the judicial branch of government, and through participation in the executive branch, enable the judicial branch of government and really be independent.
Also, we once again call on them to use their authority, to implement the process of checking the integrity of all judges as soon as possible and in this way help the citizens of Montenegro, and the judicial branch of government itself, so that, if there are those who do not belong in this honorable profession, let's free ourselves from them," the response states.
