Leader of the Albanian Forum, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Nik Đeljošaj has never shown chauvinism or threats towards any people in Montenegro, including the Serbian community, said Lindon Đeljaj, a member of the presidency of that coalition.
In response to today's announcement by the "For the Future of Montenegro" coalition, he said that their accusations against Đeljošaj are unfounded, malicious and politically motivated, and that it is an attempt to divert attention from the real challenges of Montenegrin society.
He says that Đeljošaj's political engagement and views have always been aimed at protecting the rights and equality of the Albanian community, as well as all citizens of Montenegro.
"The insinuations coming from ZBCG are a crude attempt to discredit a responsible politician who represents the interests of his community, not the spread of any hatred or intolerance."
He also says that the political position of Đeljošaj is the result of a legitimate political process and the support he enjoys among his voters.
"His contribution as a minister and deputy prime minister is not 'deserved', but is part of a wider political arrangement that ensures the representation of AF voters, which is a basic principle of a democratic state. Attacks on his office are actually attacks on the principles of a multi-ethnic society that we stand for as a party that has been continuously since 2006".
Đeljaj also points out that behind the minister of the Albanian Forum are two representatives of that coalition.
"I am concerned about the rhetoric coming from ZBCG, which tries to present the justified political views of Albanian representatives as attacks on the Serbian people. This kind of narrative only deepens divisions, instead of contributing to dialogue and understanding".
He said that Albanians in Montenegro, like other communities, have the right to be equally represented and respected in the political life of the country.
"I call on the ZBCG coalition to turn to the European path of Montenegro, to work together so that Montenegro is part of the EU as soon as possible, so that the citizens of Montenegro live better and more fairly in it. Only through mutual respect and appreciation can we build a stable and prosperous Montenegro for all its citizens," said Đeljaj.
