By fulfilling the temporary benchmarks in chapters 23 and 24, Montenegro has shown that it is a leading country in the region in the process of joining the European Union (EU), said Minister of Justice Bojan Božović, adding that he expects the upcoming report of the European Commission (EC) to be positive.
The Ministry of Justice announced that Božović met with the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, on the sidelines of the Forum of EU Ministers - Western Balkans, which is being held in Budva.
Božović, as stated, said that by fulfilling the temporary benchmarks in chapters 23 and 24, Montenegro clearly demonstrated that it is the leading country in the region when it comes to the EU accession process.
He emphasized that receiving the Report on the fulfillment of interim benchmarks and final benchmarks for Chapters 23 and 24 is a great additional incentive to continue with positive results.
"Božović assessed the fact that Montenegro was included in the EU Rule of Law Report this year as particularly important and expressed the expectation that the upcoming EC report on Montenegro will be positive and a confirmation of everything that was successfully done in Chapter 23," the announcement states.
Božović said that the Ministry of Justice continues its work with even greater dynamism, and that he, as the Minister of Justice, is firmly committed to finalizing the extremely important process of fulfilling the final criteria in Chapter 23.
He pointed out that he will continue with the judicial reform process.
"And by achieving a credible balance of results in the fight against corruption, especially at a high level, addressing the issue of war crimes, as well as with the full implementation of legislation in the area of fundamental rights protection, media freedom and freedom of expression, in accordance with European standards and EU acquis" , stated Božović.
