The report of the European Commission (EC) for this year is the best since Montenegro started negotiations, said Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, adding that European integration is a mission that has no alternative.
Gorčević said that the EC Report reflects the effort, commitment and results achieved by the Government.
"The European Commission has just published the most positive report on the progress of our country since we started negotiations for EU membership," said Gorčević.
As she added, the EC Report coincides with the anniversary of the Government's work and in the best way "reflects the effort, dedication and results that were achieved in record time".
"From the worrisome tone that followed Montenegro's European path, in a short time we restored our leadership position in the region and fulfilled some of the most demanding tasks from the negotiation process," emphasized Gorčević.
"The report clearly shows where we met expectations, but also where we should work further. We accept these recommendations as valuable guidelines that will help us accelerate the fulfillment of the remaining criteria and strengthen the reforms", said Gorčević.
She added that work on European integration is a long process, but "for our country it is a mission that has no alternative".
By the end of the year, as she said, Montenegro will close four negotiation chapters, thus making up for lost time and getting significantly closer to its ultimate goal.
Gorčević said that this is the first time, after seven years, that new chapters are being closed, adding that it shows that the Government is determined to make Montenegro's European future a reality.
"I am telling the citizens - this is a success that belongs to all of us. Montenegro's European path is a path of stability, security, progress and a better life for all of us," said Gorčević.
As she added, that is why they continue even more decisively towards EU membership until 2028.
Gorčević stressed that the EC recognized the significant successes of the Government, including the organization of intergovernmental conferences, the adoption of the reform agenda and the receipt of a positive Report on the fulfillment of temporary benchmarks for Chapters 23 and 24 (IBAR).
"At the same time, the stability of the political environment and the reduction of social divisions, which are the key foundations for further progress," said Gorčević.
According to her, the fact that the EC in the Report for the first time since the beginning of the negotiation process points out that Montenegro has made "good progress" in chapters 23 and 24 also speaks of the record results.
"This kind of formulation was not found in the reports of previous years, which additionally shows us that we are on the right path," said Gorčević.
She clarified that progress was noted in 13 chapters, while there was no setback in any chapter.
"Which is a clear message that the European integration of Montenegro has a stable and strong direction," Gorčević said.
According to her, almost for the first time in the Report for Montenegro, the rating "very good progress" can be seen.
"The report clearly shows where we met expectations, but also where we should work further. We accept these recommendations as valuable guidelines that will help us accelerate the fulfillment of the remaining criteria and strengthen the reforms", said Gorčević.
