The Socialist People's Party (SNP) strongly supports the proposal for a decision to launch a parliamentary investigation into politically motivated murders and attacks on journalists and free intellectuals, SNP MP Bogdan Božović announced.
He said that this initiative represents a key step towards "shedding light on events that remained in the dark in the prosecutor's office for decades."
"We emphasize that it is important for the institutions to determine responsibility for the crimes that occurred during the decades-long rule of the former regime, when justice was selective and when political dissidents faced brutal attacks. We remind you that during that period there were several attacks and murders whose backgrounds and perpetrators have never been revealed," Božović announced.
He also pointed out the importance of protecting freedom of speech and expression in order to create a fairer society. "The freedom of journalists and intellectuals to criticize the government and express their opinion without fear is a fundamental value of the democratic society that we are all building together".
Božović said that this parliamentary investigation represents "a step forward towards true justice and responsibility", but also a warning that no one should be above the law.
"SNP believes that in cooperation with all relevant institutions and with the support of the entire society, the events will finally be shed light on and conditions will be provided for the free and responsible expression of every citizen of Montenegro," said Božović.
