At yesterday's session of the National Security Council, the security services presented the latest report on the activities of criminal clans in Montenegro and abroad, and presented the current state of security measures in the most threatened areas and potential hot spots, as well as the necessary resources for the implementation of future priority activities to combat organized crime.
This is stated in the announcement of the Council to the media.
The session was scheduled after the murder of Petr Lipovina and Žarko Pejaković on November 6.
As it was announced, in addition to the members, the session was attended by invitation of the Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković, Chief Special Prosecutor Vladimir Novović, Acting President of the Supreme Court Vesna Vučković, President of the Podgorica High Court Zoran Radović, Director of the Police Administration Zoran Brđanin, Acting Assistant Director of the Sector for Combat against organized crime Lazar Šćepanović, head of the Special Police Department Predrag Šuković and adviser to the Prime Minister for defense and security Todor Goranović.
At its seventh, extraordinary session, the Council adopted goals to improve the security situation and the efficiency of institutions in the fight against organized crime.
"Assessment of security strategies and operational measures - So far approaches and necessary strengthening of strategies and operational capacities have been analyzed. Identification of institutional weaknesses - Key points where cooperation between the Ministry of Interior, the National Security Agency (ANB) and the judiciary/judicial bodies should be identified strengthened. Setting responsibilities and priorities - The priorities and responsibilities of each sector are defined for a more efficient fight against crime and the protection of citizens," the Council's announcement reads.
The Ministry of Justice, the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office, the Supreme Court and the High Court reported on the prosecution of members of organized criminal groups, as well as procedural obstacles that slow down the process of making judicial decisions.
"Key points were identified where changes and reinforcements are expected in the legislative framework in order to improve the efficiency of the judicial system. At the end of the session, the National Security Council: determined urgent operational measures and clearly set the responsibilities of competent institutions and individuals, defined priorities in the allocation of necessary resources for the improvement of the security and judicial system, determined the necessary initiatives towards the legislative branch of government, made a decision to strengthen cooperation with international partners in order to improve the exchange of intelligence data, introduced regular reports on progress in the implementation of measures to suppress criminal activities, along with regular meetings to monitor the results," the announcement reads.
They say that the Council remains committed to decisive action in the fight against organized crime, strengthening security capacities and cooperation with international partners...
"... In order for every citizen of Montenegro to feel security and trust in the institutions; through improving the cooperation of all competent authorities, we will prevent the escalation of criminal activities and ensure stability and peace in our country," the announcement reads.
