One of the most recent decisions of the pernicious government policy, which refers to the increase of VAT from seven percent to 15 percent, will have extremely negative consequences on the entire tourism economy in the long term. As someone who has been working in the hotel industry for many years, I believe that it is necessary to take urgent steps in the direction of preserving the Montenegrin tourism industry, announced the candidate on the list "European Union - Petar Odžić (SDP, SD, LP and Citizens) - Clean Choice" Jovo Perovic.
"Information about raising the VAT to 15 percent had an extremely negative response among the general public, and such a decision represents a huge financial burden for the hoteliers themselves. The decision to increase the VAT on accommodation by more than double, without any analysis of the effects of such a measure, represents a dangerous mistake and bad judgment, and the consequences of such a decision will have a negative impact not only on the substance of the tourism income of hoteliers and accommodation providers, but also on the tourism future of our municipality," said Perović.
He added that the decisions made in Podgorica "for the sake of fulfilling unrealistic populist promises" show not only an obvious example of ignorance about elementary tourism principles, but also a bad intention to destroy the sustainability of Montenegrin tourism.
"Our mission after the upcoming elections will be primarily aimed at mobilizing people who have practical knowledge in the field of tourism, so that our municipality will once again gain a comparative advantage in relation to other tourist destinations. That is why it is necessary to work dedicatedly and from the heart in order to create a favorable tourist and a business environment that will attract both new investors and new guests," concluded Perović.
