Montenegro and Turkey share historical ties and a common commitment to the stability of the region, announced the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.
The Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced that Milatović had a meeting with the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during the COP29 Summit in Baku, during which they exchanged opinions on the further strengthening of partnership relations between the two countries, with a special emphasis on economic cooperation. .
The announcement adds that the interlocutors particularly emphasized the importance of interstate relations between Montenegro and Turkey, which this year marks an important jubilee - 145 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Milatović pointed out that during the upcoming official visit to Turkey, which will be held on December 2 at the invitation of Erdogan, initiatives will be discussed that will open a new perspective and advance relations to a strategic level.
"Montenegro and Turkey share historical ties and a common commitment to the stability of the region. As allies in NATO, we make a full contribution to the improvement of regional stability. We are ready to jointly use the economic potential and strengthen trade exchange, as well as cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, energy, tourism, health and education," said Milatović.
In the announcement, it is written that Milatović reminded "the important role of our emigrants in Turkey, adding that they represent an extraordinary link and bridge of cooperation between the two countries".
The Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro said that Erdogan, expressing his gratitude for the expressions of solidarity that Montenegro sent on the occasion of the recent terrorist act in Ankara, confirmed that Turkey recognizes Montenegro as a friendly country and a NATO ally with which it wants to further strengthen relations and develops cooperation in all fields.
"He especially praised the role of Montenegro in the Balkans, which he assessed as contributing to peace and representing a model of stability and prosperity," the announcement concludes.
