Vuk Ikovića, member of Preokreta Preokret in the Municipal Assembly (SO) of Danilovgrad announced today that water is not a luxury, and that they demand the suspension of the increase in the price of water until the conditions for it are met.
"Movement Reversal will submit a Proposal for the Decision on revoking the consent to the Decision on the proposal for water prices for 2025, as a response to the citizens' initiative and in order to achieve the general interest. This proposal will be submitted to the Danilovgrad Municipality Assembly through a citizens' initiative, which will be signed by at least 264 citizens with the right to vote in the municipality of Danilovgrad," said Iković in the announcement.
He added that they are calling on citizens to support this initiative by signing at Preokreta's office, at "Bijeloga Pavla" street no. 24, every day from 11 a.m. to 18 p.m., no later than the following Tuesday.
Iković stated that he was recalling the words of Prime Minister and leader of the Europe Now Movement (PES) Milojko Spajić: "We will not allow water prices to increase wherever PES is involved in the exercise of power."
"At the session of the Municipal Assembly of Danilovgrad, scheduled for November 28, we expect that this promise will be fulfilled by canceling the Decision on water prices for 2025. We have only reasons for reducing, not increasing, the price of water. Frequent interruptions in water supply and summer water shortages in to numerous villages is a clear sign that it is necessary to reduce, not increase, the price of water they do not acquire objective and justified conditions for such a move," said Iković.
According to him, the Waterworks and the Municipality did not allow citizens to express their opinion on the proposed increase in the price of water by as much as 50 percent, nor did they organize a public discussion on this topic.
"The question is - if the costs of electricity and plumbing materials are the same in all municipalities, why have other municipalities not resorted to such a drastic increase in the price of water? We remind you that the costs of investments and repayment of loans are not included in the price of water - it is based solely on the costs of wages. These are just some of the reasons why we are asking for the suspension of new prices for 2025," said Iković.
According to him, higher salaries for Waterworks workers are justified, but funds for them can be provided by reducing losses on the network, by abolishing illegal connections and modernizing the system, instead of burdening citizens by increasing the price of water.
"Because of all this, we demand fair prices, and the first step is to repeal the Decision on water prices for 2025. If we remain indifferent to the negligence of officials, unfair bill increases will be everyday. This is not only a question of economics, but above all of living conditions, fairness and responsibility towards citizens.
