Montenegro finally has a concrete and detailed plan for closing the chapter, as well as an analysis of needs and potential problems in the negotiation process, said the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević.
As reported by the Ministry of European Affairs, Gorčević said this in a conversation with Deputy Assistant US Secretary of State Aleksander Kasanof.
"The first year of this government's work was the most successful in the entire negotiation process of Montenegro so far. "Montenegro finally has a concrete and detailed plan for closing the chapter, as well as an analysis of needs and potential problems in the negotiation process," said Gorčević.
She emphasized that the Barometar 26 platform was created, the goal of which, as she stated, is to gather all political and social actors around the key foreign policy goal of Montenegro, membership in the European Union (EU).
Gorčević thanked for the strong support of the United States of America (USA), indicating that the cooperation in fulfilling the criteria for closing chapter 31 - Foreign, security and defense policy, and therefore the closing of cluster 6 - External relations, was particularly significant.
Kasanof congratulated Montenegro on the success achieved in the negotiation process, the received positive Report on the fulfillment of temporary benchmarks for Chapters 23 and 24 (IBAR) and the Report of the European Commission for this year.
"The US will continue to strongly support Montenegro in implementing comprehensive reforms. You need to focus on the EU path and direct all your capacities to achieve that goal," Kasanof said.
As stated in the announcement, it was pointed out at the meeting that the successful accession of Montenegro to the Union would mark a positive and strong impulse for the entire region.
It is added that Gočević and Kasanof spoke about the importance of the role of the USA in supporting peace and stability in the Western Balkans.
"It was also concluded that the Montenegrin-American alliance in many important areas confirms that the two countries share the same value system and strategic direction," the statement said.
