Montenegro could be branded on the world market of organic food production, said Democrat MP Albin Ćeman, adding that the country has natural potential for organic production.
"To brand Montenegro on the world market of organic food production, along with the fact that we are officially an ecological country, is an opportunity that Montenegro must not miss, and everything is in the interest of citizens who have the desire to engage in this type of production, and therefore the state , which would be successfully mapped on the world market of organic food production", stated Ćeman in the announcement.
He believes that the production of organic food, with all the difficulties it entails, will in the future represent one of the strategic priorities of the development of agriculture, which, in itself, is one of the pillars of the country's development.
This is especially important for the northern region of Montenegro, where there are the most organic producers, somewhere around 92 percent.
"Several decades of carelessness by previous decision-makers has led to the existence of a small, actually 1,5 percent of agricultural land that is used for organic production, while slightly more than 400 producers are involved in organic production," specified Ćeman.
According to him, Montenegro has natural potential for organic and ecological production, i.e. clean and unpolluted land, clean water and a good climate.
"It additionally creates conditions for engaging in this type of production, which, apart from economic, also has a health aspect, which is safe, organic food, which does not contain any contaminants, because inadequate nutrition leads to disorders of our health," said Ćeman.
According to Ćeman, what the state should provide to all future producers of organic food is simplified and shortened administrative procedures for obtaining certificates, but also stimulating agricultural producers to produce organic food, either through the Agricultural Budget or European IPARD programs.
This, among other things, increases the number of organic products on the market and strengthens their competitiveness, but also provides quality food.
