The leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Danijel Živković said that they had contacts with the representatives of the coalition "For a better Podgorica", which was led by the president of the state Jakov Milatović in the Podgorica elections, TV Nova M reports.

He said that they discussed not only how to achieve efficient city administration and the situation in the capital, but also in Montenegro in general.

Živković, appearing as a guest on the "Iznova" show on Nova M television, also said that it would not make sense to offer Luka Rakčević the mayor of Podgorica to the DPS, which won the most mandates.

"The moment we finish the talks within these parties, i.e. the political entities that responded to our call and when we define a common platform, of course we will also invite these political entities, i.e. the coalition that participated in the elections in Podgorica led by the President Jakov Milatović and try to reach an agreement in that way," said Živković.

He said that democratic principles "must be returned" to the political life of Montenegro.

"This means that, if we got the most votes in these elections, it means that we sit down and agree on clear principles. Therefore, those who achieved the best result have the right and are invited first to propose the president of the municipality, that is, in this case to propose a candidate for the mayor of Podgorica, in this case it is DPS. Our list holder was Nermin Abdić, and that is keeping the letter of democratic principles. You cannot suddenly behave by saying - well, here we respect democratic principles when it suits us, and on the other hand say - wait, we will not apply those democratic principles here, but the one who achieved two or three or four councilors has the right to propose the position of the mayor."

He said it didn't make any sense. "After that, politics loses its meaning, and because of that, citizens lose trust in politics, politicians and political entities," said Živković.
