URA Civil Movement Member of Parliament Ana Novaković Đurović held a meeting with representatives of non-governmental organizations that have been providing support services for women and children victims of violence for decades and promised to propose an increase in funds for shelters in the 2025 Budget.
As stated in the announcement of GP URA, NGO representatives presented their numerous activities and services in this area, as well as the information that in 2024 alone, 119 people - women and children who are victims of violence - will stay in their shelters. They pointed to the problem of financing shelters, both in terms of the amount of funds, which is not sufficient but not certain, as well as in the procedures for allocating funds.
"These organizations have been and remain the first address for women and children victims of violence for over 20 years every day, 24 hours a day. In this way, shelters managed by NGOs do the work of the state and institutions. Unfortunately, the trend of increasing violence against women in Montenegro increases their workload and responsibility", stressed Novaković Đurović.
She pointed out that in such an environment, it is necessary for the state to financially and institutionally support the operation of shelters and enable their sustainability.
"For this reason, I will propose to the Women's Club of the Parliament of Montenegro that our common request be an increase in funds for shelters in the Budget for 2025, as well as a fair distribution of these funds," concluded Novaković Đurović.
