Montenegro is a leader in accession negotiations with the European Union and we want it to become a full member of the EU as soon as possible, said the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Tanja Fajon.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović met today in Podgorica with Tanja Fajon, who is staying in Montenegro on the occasion of the opening of the Center for Cyber Capacities of the Western Balkans (WB3C).
At the meeting, it was assessed that the relations between Montenegro and Slovenia are traditionally friendly and substantive, and that bilateral cooperation is developing on an upward trajectory, announced the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ibrahimović thanked Slovenia for its continuous expert and political support for the integration of Montenegro into the EU.
"Slovenia is our sincere friend and a country that has stood by Montenegro since the beginning of the integration process. We are grateful for the comprehensive support for reforms that contribute to the development of our society and the approach to EU membership. Our goal is ambitious, but realistic. We are committed to reaching the standards and fulfilling all the conditions before us, in order to become a member of the EU by 2028".

"Montenegro is an important and reliable partner and Slovenia will continue to provide you with strong support on the European path," said Minister Fajon, assessing that positive progress has been made and significant progress has been made in the negotiation process. She pointed out that EU enlargement is in the interest of both the candidate countries and the Union itself. "Montenegro is a leader in the negotiations and we want it to become a full member of the EU as soon as possible."
The conversation also discussed the importance of further strengthening regional stability, and the potential for further improvement of bilateral cooperation, especially in the field of economy.
Today in Podgorica, the heads of diplomacy of Montenegro and Slovenia signed the Development Cooperation Program between the governments of the two countries for the period 2024-2025.

The program is planned for the Slovenian side to commit to support projects worth over two million euros.
