Transport Minister Osman Nurković could succeed Rafet Husović as president of the Bosniak Party (BS), reports "Vijesti".
Husović announced to his colleagues at the top of the party that he will step down from the leadership of the party, and according to Antena M radio, he could make the step down official at the session of the Main Board scheduled for Saturday.
According to the interlocutors of "Vijesti" from BS, Husović had previously hinted that he might leave the party leadership next May, but he hastened that decision so that the party leadership would be ready for the elections in Rožaje, Bijelo Polje, Plav, Gusinje and Podgorica, which should will be held next year.
The interlocutors of "Vijesti" state that Nurković, as an influential representative of the party headquarters from Rožaj, will be a candidate for the new president. Husović and Nurković did not answer the telephone calls of "Vijesti" journalists yesterday.
"Nurković is very influential in the party and represents the strongest Rožaj committee, which is why he is most likely to succeed Husović. Although other committees in the north are suspicious of his candidacy, Nurković can also benefit from the support of Prime Minister Duško Marković, who is very satisfied with the cooperation with the minister "Like Husović and Nurković, he is close to the head of the Islamic Community, Rifat Fejzić, which could help him secure the support of the membership and part of the public," said the interlocutor of "Vijesti" from BS.
According to the claims of "Vijesti" interlocutors, the new party leadership would initiate changes in the municipal committees after the extraordinary congress and open up space for replacements in the committees with which Husović had problems.
Committees in Bijelo Polje and Petnjica broke off coalitions with the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) in Bijelo Polje and Petnjica, calling on the party leadership to do the same at the state level, and the first man of the Plav committee Orhan Šahmanović openly criticized the policy of the party leadership, calling on them to cooperate with the opposition.
Husović has been the president of the Bosniak Party since its foundation, and since February 2006 he has been re-elected as party leader in 2011 and 2015. In the Government of Montenegro, he currently holds the position of Vice President for Regional Development, and during his political career he was also a minister without portfolio.
