The "Josip Marković" cultural center in Tivat is being handed over to Croatia, the Government of Montenegro announced today.
"With the aim of affirming and promoting the value and heritage of the Croatian community in Montenegro, the Government at today's telephone session passed a Decision on the regulation of property and legal relations between the Government of Montenegro and the Municipality of Tivat for the 'Josip Marković' Cultural Center in Donja Lastva. As stated, The special national and public interest of Montenegro is reflected in the affirmation and preservation of the identity of the Croatian minority, which is an integral part of our society. In this regard, the Government of Montenegro is committed to providing adequate conditions for the preservation and development of cultural, of the linguistic and identity richness of the Croatian community," the statement emphasized.
The Government added that bearing in mind the above, it was assessed that it is indisputable public interest to return the property in question to the Government of Montenegro, in order to fulfill the obligation towards the Croatian minority, which should receive a modern and adequate place for the gathering and promotion of cultural content and preserving your heritage.
"In this regard, the Government tasked the Ministry of Simple Planning, Urbanism and State Property to submit a request on behalf of the Government to the Municipality of Tivat for the transfer of the right to dispose of the 'Josip Marković' Cultural Center, after which the signing of the intergovernmental agreement with the Republic of Croatia will be started. In this way, the Croatian community in Montenegro will be affirmed, and bilateral relations with the Republic of Croatia will also be strengthened," the announcement reads.
The Government said that on this and all other issues of common interest, Montenegro and Croatia will continue to conduct an open and constructive dialogue, through intensive diplomatic cooperation and friendly relations, in the spirit of shared European values and goals.
