The Ministry of European Affairs will continue to support local governments on the path of European integration, help them prepare for membership and promote European values, announced the Minister of European Affairs, Maida Gorčević, at the celebration of the European Day in Kolašin.
"We want the citizens of Kolašin to feel the benefits even in the accession phase and understand that the goal of joining the European Union (EU) is a better quality of life for all of us," said the Minister of European Affairs, Gorčević pointed out.
The Ministry of European Affairs announced that the working visit to the Municipality of Kolašin is part of the project "EU4ME - Support for the communication of the European integration process", and that Gorčević and the ambassador of the European Union in Montenegro, Johan Satler and his associates met with the President of the Municipality of Kolašin, Petko Bakić, and his team.
The announcement adds that Gorčević expressed the Government's support for the development of the Municipality and in this context encouraged the management to follow the calls and work on quality project proposals, because it is important that all municipalities are trained to better use the funds of the European Union, improve the quality of life and modernize services. .
"The Ministry of European Affairs is available to municipalities to support them and be a partner in identifying opportunities, writing quality project proposals and finding partners for withdrawing funds from EU funds," said Gorčević.
She said that projects for the development of winter and rural tourism, for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises, ecology, employment, social policy, through EU funds in the field of cross-border cooperation may be available to Kolašin.
Satler said that the European Union proudly supported the development of tourism in Kolašin through successful projects such as the Kolašin Open Fest, which showed the potential of the Kolašin region.
"I am satisfied that we have allocated 11 million euros for the improvement of water supply and the construction of a modern system for the treatment of waste water, which will improve the quality of life and the tourist offer. In the process of EU integration, local communities, such as Kolašin, play a key role, and we count on your active cooperation on Montenegro's European path," said Satler.
Pointing out the importance of spreading the European idea at the local level as well, the interlocutors discussed ways for the Municipality to further strengthen its capacities when it comes to attracting EU funds.
"With the Minister of European Affairs, we discussed key issues concerning the Municipality of Kolašin and the participation of our local self-government in the process of European integration," Bakić said, and expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of today's visit.
