Tonight's decision by the body of the Council of the EU - Coreper II to approve the closure of the negotiation chapters for Montenegro has completely unblocked the process of Montenegro's accession to the European Union. This is also the first time after 7 years that Montenegro is closing chapters, and as such it is the only one of all the candidate countries that got this opportunity this year, the Europe Now Movement announced.
"In the first year of the mandate of the Government and the parliamentary majority, we managed to close the same number of chapters as during the 12 previous years, which confirms our full commitment to European integration. The leadership position of Montenegro among the candidates in achieving this strategic goal is also confirmed by the fact that during this year we held two intergovernmental conference with the EU, received a positive IBAR - the first in history, became the first candidate country that is a member of the SEPA area and received the approval of the Reform Agenda in the amount of 383 million euros," the announcement reads.
They point out that the closure of chapters 7, 10 and 20 is an additional incentive to complete the mission of the Barometer 26 platform within the set deadline, which would ensure the closure of all chapters by the end of 2026.
"We expect that the Conclusions on enlargement will also contain information on preparations for the drafting of the Treaty on the Accession of Montenegro to the EU - which would underline the certainty of our accession by 2028," the announcement concludes.
