I sent a clear message that Montenegrin state interests and our European future must not be prisoners of irresponsible policies that move us away from our goal, announced the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.
The Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced that Milatović met with the Prime Minister of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, ahead of the start of the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels.
"We are aware of the challenges that have damaged relations with the Republic of Croatia, and precisely because of this, I decided to use the opportunity to participate in the Summit to meet with Prime Minister Plenković. Croatia is our close neighbor, a member of the EU and NATO, and a country with which we share common interests and obligations in preserving the stability of the region and strengthening the European perspective of the Western Balkans. Our vision is clear - through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, to work on solving all open issues that burden our relations. I sent a clear message that Montenegrin State interests and our European future must not be prisoners of irresponsible policies that take us away from our goal," Milatović pointed out.
He added that from the position of the President of Montenegro, he will invest his personal and institutional authority to ensure that the bilateral consultations are successful, with a commitment to finding mutually acceptable solutions.
"Good-neighborly cooperation is not only a condition in the accession negotiations with the EU, but also the foundation of our foreign policy strategy and the key to building trust in the region. I believe that through honest dialogue we can not only solve existing challenges, but also open up space for deeper and more meaningful cooperation that will benefit to both sides," concluded Milatović.
