The Albanian Alliance expresses deep concern about the political events in Montenegro, Ilir Capuni, a representative of the Albanian Alliance in the Parliament of Montenegro, announced today.
"The polarization of relations in the Parliament of Montenegro itself and the lack of dialogue in it lead us to a political and institutional crisis, which inevitably leads to a slowdown in integration processes. Events in the Parliament of Montenegro are certainly not an appropriate way to mark and celebrate the closing of 3 chapters in the negotiation process with the EU nor are they a sign of reflection and analysis of the fact that the closing of another chapter was prevented by wrong policies and decisions during this year," Čapuni pointed out in the announcement.
He added that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić's call for dialogue could be a step in the right direction to calm tensions.
"However, it is necessary that such a dialogue be conducted in good faith, with the commitment of all parties to the preservation of the constitutional order and democratic values of Montenegro, in order to remove any doubt and concern about possible influence and blackmail within our political system. Any move that undermines statehood Montenegro or its hard-earned sovereignty must be condemned unequivocally. At this moment of political fragility, it is crucial that all actors put the national interest before the party's. Montenegro's democratic future depends on its preservation constitutional framework, respect for institutional independence and the unwavering dedication of its leaders to the protection of statehood and the unity of our citizens," Čapuni said.
After a smoke bomb was thrown at the session of the Constitutional Committee the day before yesterday and after the incidents in the plenary hall, the parliament declared the termination of office of Dragana Đuranović, who was elected as a judge of the Constitutional Court in February 2023, the day before last night.
This left five judges in the Constitutional Court, out of a total of seven that should have been there, because Judge Milorad Gogić retired in May.
Despite the throwing of a smoke bomb, the session of the Constitutional Committee ended and conclusions were adopted. The board, among other things, also decided to advertise for the election of two judges (successors to Gogić and Đuranović).
