As the founders and co-presidents of the first Women's Club of the Parliament of Montenegro, we strongly condemn the inappropriate behavior of fellow MPs towards MP Jevrosima Pejović, said Branka Bošnjak and Vesna Pavićević.
"The attempt to silence and disparage a member of parliament, who only resolutely and persistently demanded her right to speak, which belongs to her as a matter of business, is inadmissible. Insults and primitivism must not be part of the highest house, and it is especially reprehensible when addressed to a woman. Such behavior shows the weakness of those who do not have the strength of arguments, so they pursue such inappropriate behavior, which has no justification and deserves every criticism. It is painful for us, who are the founders of female unity in the Parliament of Montenegro and the protection of women from such and similar attacks, as we fought for the unity of all female MPs, regardless of party affiliation, so that we do not react to the silence of the Women's Club of this convocation of the Assembly, which must rise above narrow-party interests and the first to condemn the behavior of his colleagues towards a female colleague, regardless of who it came from," their announcement states.
Bošnjak and Pavićević pointed out that the strength of the Women's Club should lie in unity, togetherness and principles.
"We have always been courageous in our fight for the improvement of the position of women and their protection, so we are recognized for the fact that, in the most difficult political turmoil, we managed to be above the daily political and party interests and put women's rights first. condemned all attacks, when the victims were colleagues: Draginja Vuksanović, Aleksandra Vuković Kuč, Dragica Sekulić, but also Vesna Bratić and Jelena Birovinić Bojović... The Women's Club of the Parliament of Montenegro did not can remain silent on yesterday's events, but he also could not remain silent and not publicly condemn the scandalous behavior of sexual harassment in schools in Montenegro, because it was we, as the Women's Club of the last convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro, who initiated and succeeded in stiffening the penalties in the Criminal Code for this type of criminal offense against sexual freedom and prescribed a mandatory register of pedophiles and a ban on the work of such persons with children," they point out in the announcement.
They appealed to their colleagues not to allow the reputation of the Women's Club to collapse and make its existence meaningless, to make an effort and preserve the quality of the Women's Club, to appreciate their painstaking work on its harmony, homogeneity and recognition beyond the borders of Montenegro.
"Only through an equal, unique and joint struggle in the Women's Club can we expect improvement for all women and children in Montenegro! This was shown in the most politically turbulent times, when the Women's Club proved, as an exceptional example of unity, that we can all work together to achieve our program goal and earned praise in the reports of the European Commission on the progress of Montenegro in the integration process.
