Deputy mayor of Podgorica and official of the Civic Movement URA Luka Rakčević, who was a candidate for mayor in front of the coalition "For a better Podgorica", said that the president of the state Jakov Milatović "overnight agreed to the role of a rag and a pawn" of the Movement Europe Now and the coalition "For the future of Podgorica".
He says that Milatović caved in under pressure and signed his political end.
He said that URA will be a "fierce, constructive and strong opposition, fighting for every inch of our Podgorica".
"When, dissatisfied with the work of the city administration, we returned the mandate to the citizens and renounced all the functions we performed, the former coalition partners offered us towers and cities (positions of director, secretary, second deputy mayor, etc.), so that the bad government would survive and continue with At that time, we proudly said that the interest of the city was above the party's interest, rejecting everything offered and scheduling elections for September 29. Every day since that Assembly session (held on July 29), was a new confirmation that we did the right thing and that Podgorica needs a faster, more responsible and better city administration, which does not push problems under the carpet, but resolves them decisively ) the authorities made a whole series of disastrous moves, directed against state and city interests, which once again confirmed the correctness of our decision: from the terrible PUP, the Constitutional coup and the relativization of the scandal in the Gymnasium, to enormous debts, the destruction of the pension system, the famous Velje brdo and numerous others," wrote Rakčević on Facebook.
He said that they were looking for a chance to lead the process, to show how much they can do and to implement a "never more ambitious plan", for which, as he says, they have gained the trust of the citizens and on which they have worked devotedly for the last two years.
He said that, until yesterday, they had that chance openly on the table.
"Why, despite all that - but also heavy accusations and criticisms against PES and DF, Jakov Milatović overnight agreed to the role of a rag and a pawn of the same, accepting participation in the government and miserable armchairs from which he will in no way be able to to influence the city's development policy, I believe they don't understand why he and his group asked for local elections in the first place, if they now agree to much less than what they could get before the mandate of the Main Assembly was shortened "Montenegro has seen various political actors, and Jakov Milatović will not be the first, nor the last, to succumb to the pressure and sign his political end. We are adults and we all bear the burden of our own decisions," Rakčević said.
He said that "regret remains for the missed opportunity", that Podgorica "move forward dynamically and be a counter-weight to the total madness and circus from the state level", as well as "a catalyst for necessary changes, which would stop the wave of nationalism, populism and crime, which collapses our foundations and renders meaningless all the values we stand for".
"Just as in July, we proudly refused numerous positions and chairs, renouncing all the positions we held, so now - just as decisively - we refused to be part of the new circus and ficus to the new bad government. Thank you for your support, but such human and political suicide does not come to mind. We will be a fierce, constructive and strong opposition, fighting for every inch of our Podgorica, just as we did for nine years, until the dismissal We wish our colleagues from yesterday good luck on the private front, and our Montenegro and Podgorica - braver, more determined and better political leaders, who will stand firmly behind the given word and who will not turn around as the wind blows together, for at least three lives. Let's move on, for our city," wrote Rakčević.
