The club of Democratic councilors in the Assembly of the Capital City, at the constitutive session held today, unanimously elected councilor Mitra Paunović as the president of the club, it was announced from this party.
"Democratic Montenegro, in this Convocation of the Assembly of the Capital City, is the second strongest member of the ruling majority with 6 council mandates, right after the Europe Now Movement. And after the resignation of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Danilo Šaranović, due to the incompatibility of functions, he will perform councilor functions in the local parliament in gender parity, three men and three women, Zdenka Popović, Mitar Paunović, Jovana Mijović, Mitar Vuković, Ljiljana Maraš and Pavle Ljumović. With this, we show that we are setting positive practices in increasing the degree of participation of women in politics at work, with even 50% less representation of the sex in the benches of the councilors' club," states the statement delivered to the media.
Paunović is the spokesperson of the Democrats, and in the elections held in September he was the third member of that party on the coalition electoral list with the Europe Now Movement (PES), while he was also a candidate for councilor in the elections held in 2022. He is a member of the highest bodies of the Democrats, the Presidency and the Main Board of the Party, according to his biography.
The Democrats announced that Paunović is involved in politics and is known for his reasoned presentation and civilized discussion.
He is a participant of the Advanced Leadership Program of the International Republican Institute - ALPI. He has been awarded first places at national and international debate competitions several times. He is a member of the first Youth Parliament of the Parliament of Montenegro, and for years he was dedicated to youth activism in the field of prevention and suppression of violent extremism, through the projects of the Delegation of the European Union, of which he was a young ambassador and NGO sector, said Paunović's party.
"By electing the youngest president of a committee club in Montenegro, the Democrats send a strong message that young people should not be a decoration on the political stage, but that they should be allowed to participate directly in the creation of public policies at the local and state level, and we call on all political actors to they follow our example," the announcement concludes.
