Relations between Serbia and Montenegro are good, and they can and must be even better, said Serbian Prime Minister Miloš Vučević, answering questions from journalists.
He came to Mojkovac, as he said, to mark the 109th anniversary of the Battle of Mojkovac, and at the invitation of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro Andrija Mandić and the President of the Municipality of Mojkovac, Vesko Delić.
Vučević said that he believes that the conditions are ripe for him to meet with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić in Podgorica or Belgrade.
"Yesterday I spoke with Prime Minister Spajić on the phone, I exchanged messages with President Jakov Milatović, as well as with President of the Assembly Mandić, after the tragedy in Cetinje. I am ready for a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Government of Montenegro, whenever and wherever needed, in Podgorica or Belgrade I think it is more natural to meet in Podgorica or Belgrade than to meet in European cities. Spajić is welcome in Serbia, I think the moment has come to organize a meeting between the two prime ministers," he said.
Vucevic emphasized the importance of economic projects that should connect the two countries. This, he believes, is much more important than daily political disputes and different views on historical events.
"It is important for us in Serbia to hear whether Montenegro has plans to continue the road from Andrijevica to the border with Serbia. This affects Serbia's decision whether we will continue the road from Sjenica to Montenegro. I hope we will have a period of stability and to be able to focus on the growth of our countries' economies, on the growth of salaries and pensions, so that people stay in the region, and demography is the biggest problem for all of us. It all boils down to demography and the number of people you have. we don't have to either to think about all issues," said Vucevic.
So far, Vučević said, not much has been done regarding the initiative to provide free education in Serbia to students from Montenegro, who identify themselves as Serbs. However, as he claims, it was not a story intended for the period before the census in Montenegro, but, as he said, the realization of that idea will continue.
"It was a mutual initiative of the Union of Montenegrin Students and the Government of Serbia. We give the privilege of education and study to citizens who feel they are part of the Serbian people, as well as other countries having such a program. the possibility to study in Serbia under favorable conditions. Unfortunately, we have not done much in this sense. I hope that we will do these things in the future Of course, it is not only a question of Serbia, we also need the support of the Government of Montenegro," said the Prime Minister of Serbia.
According to him, the messages of the Battle of Mojkovac are timeless. As he said, if there were no heroes from Mojkovac, there would be no Thessaloniki Front, no Kajmakčalans, no 1918... Vucevic believes that Montenegro and Serbia will jointly mark the dates that connect the two countries in the future.
"I believe that we will jointly mark all those dates, which are written in the history of one and the other country, that we will not be ashamed of what connected us, respecting, of course, the existence of two countries," he said.
The Prime Minister of Serbia answered the questions of the journalists after the meeting with the President of the Municipality Vesko Delić, after which he will speak at the ceremonial session of the Mojkovac Municipal Council, on the occasion of the Municipal Day.
