I strongly condemn the infliction of injury in the physical attack on MP and councilor Bojana Pićan, by the security of the Municipal Assembly (SO) of Budva, Jelena Borovinić Bojović, president of the Capital City Assembly, announced today.
"Unfortunately, this is another example of violent behavior that is still present in our society, and it takes on a particularly aggressive character in relation to women who are involved in politics. Violence is always an indicator of weakness, and in this particular case, an unworthy act of the supposed professionals responsible for the safety of employees in the premises of the building, which they are obliged to guarantee to all councilors. This represents a violation of both human rights and the basic democratic principles on which local self-government rests," Borovinić Bojović said in a statement.
She added that she appeals to the competent authorities to urgently prosecute the people who participated in this incident, in order to send a clear message that the perpetrators of violence will bear the consequences and be responsible for their actions.
"I call on institutions, organizations and individuals to publicly condemn the attack and thereby contribute to the creation of a safe socio-political environment for women in Montenegro," said Borovinić Bojović.
Councilor of the "For the Future of Budva" coalition, Bojana Pićan, was injured yesterday in the Budva Municipal Assembly (MA). According to the coalition, security guards injured her hand.
