PES: DPS, SD and GP URA delegitimized their declaratively pro-European orientation by boycotting Kos

"It is precisely for the sake of the European perspective, for the sake of fundamental chapters and the rule of law, for the delivery of results in the fight against high-level corruption, that we will not falter in the face of this or other actions that these individuals are preparing," the PES statement reads.

By not attending the session of the Parliament of Montenegro held for the purpose of addressing Marta Kos, Commissioner for Enlargement of the European Union, some opposition parties have aligned themselves with the anti-European bloc, the Europe Now Movement (PES) announced today.

The party added that the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), the Social Democrats (SD) and the Civic Movement URA, "by boycotting the most important member of the College of Commissioners for Montenegro, did not succeed in damaging our European path, but they irreversibly delegitimized their declaratively pro-European orientation."

"Justifying the boycott of the session by the alleged Constitutional Coup, about which there is no consensus among legal experts, nor has such an assessment been confirmed by the competent institutions, is completely meaningless. It is clear that no European official would attend a session of a state body that carried out a coup, just as it is even clearer that the Constitutional Court is not blocked, but is functioning and making decisions regularly," the PES statement, headed by the Prime Minister of Montenegro, Milojko Spajić, says.

They said that "it is almost becoming clear that the coordinated action of opposition MPs and a few lawyers in charge and their partner media outlets was aimed at using the Constitutional Court to abrogate the guilt of those who were arrested based on data provided by Europol."

"It is precisely for the sake of the European perspective, for the sake of fundamental chapters and the rule of law, for the delivery of results in the fight against high-level corruption, that we will not falter in the face of this or other actions that these individuals are preparing," the PES statement reads.

During today's special session of the Parliament at which Kos addressed the audience, only independent MP Jevrosima Pejović was present, while some of the opposition MPs were in the Parliament.
