At the 5th Congress of the Youth Forum of the Civic Movement URA, Luka Vukotić was elected president, the URA Civic Movement announced today.
"Luka was born in 2002 in Podgorica, where he completed primary and secondary school, and is currently a student of Psychology. At the age of 18, Luka joined the Civic Movement URA just before the historic elections on August 30, 2020, after which, thanks to his dedication and creativity, he quickly took on a significant role in the movement's work. Since 2021, Luka has been a member of the Young European Ambassadors Network, an initiative that is part of a European Commission project. Through his work in this network, he strives to bring the idea and vision of the European Union closer to our society, thus promoting European values and regional cooperation," the GP URA statement states.
The party added that Vukotić thanked the delegates for their support and trust, emphasizing that it was a great honor and responsibility for him to be at the head of a youth organization.
"I am convinced that as a team, with joint energy and effort, we will show that young people can and should be the driving force of change in Montenegro with the aim of having a better future, primarily for our youth in our country. URA is not just a political movement for me - it is a symbol of a civic, green and European Montenegro, URA believes in politics that is based on values, not interests. URA has shown that decisions can be made for the benefit of all citizens, that politics can be transparent and that the state can be loved with work, not just words. I am here because I believe in politics that recognizes the importance of every individual, politics that is not burdened by the past, but bravely looks to the future," said Vukotić.
He said that this is the moment when young people need to show that they are a generation that has not only inherited problems, but has found solutions.
"That they are a generation that chooses unity instead of division, courage instead of fear, and ideas instead of personal privileges and interests. And that only together can we build a Montenegro that inspires, a Montenegro that respects its young people, that supports them and where they want to stay, and that is precisely why changes always start with the young," said Vukotić.
President of GP URA Dritan Abazović congratulated Vukotić on his election as President of the URA Youth Forum, emphasizing that he has no doubt that he, like all his predecessors, starting with Luka Rakčević, through Ana Rašović, Milan Đaković, Ljiljana Jokić Kapa, and finally Stefan Vukmanović, will make a great contribution to the organization and the fight for better changes in Montenegro.
"The democratic wheel in Montenegro started in 2020 and now young people have a much greater opportunity than before to participate in decision-making. The future belongs to young people, it is not a platitude, it is a biological thing, it belongs to you young people to be better than us, you need to push this country forward. I believe in a different Montenegro, if I didn't believe I would never have gotten involved in politics, I believed that changes could come when young people didn't believe in it. I believe that Montenegro can be a better part of the European Union in 10, 15 years, but for that to happen we have to think differently in relation to some of the established matrices, we have to give up the policies of discredit, nationalism, populism and build the institutions of the system on sound foundations," said Abazović.
Former President of the Youth Forum and member of the Main Board of the URA GP Stefan Vukmanović emphasized that he is proud of the results that the Youth Forum has achieved in the previous period through joining numerous international organizations, through numerous implemented actions, through proposing various laws and launching initiatives together with URE MPs in the Parliament of Montenegro and in the Government.
"Throughout all this time, I have received confirmation of what I believe in, which is that we young people, not only those of us who are young in years, but those of us who are young in ideas, new and innovative, can really pull Montenegro out of the vicious circle of dark ideologies and push our society forward," said Vukmanović.
URE Political Director Ana Novaković Đurović said that she was proud of everything the Youth Forum had done in previous years, emphasizing primarily the initiative that declared September 20th the Day of the Ecological State of Montenegro.
"Thus, with all the actions that accompanied this initiative, our young people confirmed that the Green Party is not just their declarative commitment, but that these are essential values that they truly stand for. Every organization, of course, rests on a team of people, but its sustainability and its duration depend on its ability to build new leaders and profile young people. We already have them and I am very proud of them, and I am also sure that in the future they will do this job better than us older people," said Novaković Đurović.
