There will be no unblocking of the Parliament of Montenegro, nor any other political dialogue, Damir Šehović, one of the leaders of the European Alliance and the president of the Social Democrats of Montenegro (SD), announced today.
He stated in the statement that the parliamentary majority, through a classic usurpation of the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court, brutally destroyed the constitutional order and consciously introduced the state into legal uncertainty.
"We do not need any additional confirmation that this is illegal and unconstitutional behavior, because it is completely obvious, which, after all, the expert public has an undivided opinion on. Whoever needs 'additional help' to read what is clearly written in the Constitution, or an excuse in front of their own people for sprinkling ashes and eliminating the consequences of the constitutional coup they themselves caused, can ask for it from whoever they want. This is not our problem, but the problem of the government that has embarked on this legal and political adventure," Šehović pointed out.
He added that the European Union does not weigh in on the need to respect the Constitution, and that he is completely certain that other opposition parties do not either.
"The Constitution must be respected in full, without calculations and compromises. Therefore, there will be no unblocking of the Parliament of Montenegro, nor any other political dialogue. There is no dialogue until the unconstitutional decisions are annulled and the situation returns to its previous state. This is the basic prerequisite for any normalization of political and institutional life in Montenegro. And not only that - we will propose to our colleagues from the opposition to expand the demands. I am sure that we will reach agreement, and the public will be informed about everything in the coming days," said Šehović.
The opposition believes that the Constitution has been violated because the parliament, without the mandatory notification of the Constitutional Court, decided in mid-December to terminate the judicial office of Judge Dragana Đuranović due to her reaching the retirement age in accordance with the Pension and Disability Insurance Act (PIO). They claim that this was done in order to “govern without elections,” that is, to postpone local and state elections until 2027.
The Assembly concluded that Đuranović's judicial office had been terminated based on the conclusion of the Constitutional Committee.
The opposition Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced on January 16 that it would not allow the Parliament session to be held on January 21st, with this year's budget on the agenda.
DPS leader Danijel Živković said at a press conference in the Parliament that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić could only expect, but that DPS would not be in the Parliament on January 21st.
"We will not allow sessions to be held in the coming period until things return to the previous state," said Živković.
Vijesti announced today that the Prime Minister and the Europe Now Movement (PES) Milojko Spajić and the leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Danijel Živković met yesterday in Podgorica with the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Montenegro, Johann Sattler, who proposed to them that the Venice Commission (VC) be involved in resolving the political crisis resulting from the events regarding the Constitutional Court, that is, to examine the decisions that led to the termination of Dragana Đuranović's judicial function.
Vujović: If Spajić had the courage, he could resolve the crisis in five minutes by overturning the unconstitutional decision of the parliament
Ivan Vujović, one of the leaders of the European Union and president of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), announced today that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, if he were allowed to do so by Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić, could resolve the crisis in five minutes by annulling the unconstitutional decision of parliament.

"Until yesterday he said it was legally impossible. Now it might be possible if VK says so. As usual - deception after deception. Maneuvering in vain, it's all up to you, Spajić - if only you were allowed to," Vujović wrote on the social network X.
