Democratic MP Duško Stjepović said he was concerned about the possibility that, as he claims, structures of the former regime, "in conjunction with their underground allies," would attempt to provoke incidents in order to "attempt to overthrow the government out of fear of justice."
"They are afraid of new people, new directors, elders and police officers, because they know that these new people, with the vast majority of them honest, bring justice, determination and a crackdown on crime the likes of which Montenegro has not seen in decades. This is best confirmed by the fact that certain officials have signed for the release of those accused of extremely serious crimes and membership in criminal organizations. That is why today, while they are screaming and trying to stay afloat in the swamp they created themselves, we are telling them: your era has come to an end. Your false faces have been exposed, and the people of Montenegro are now seeing the truth," he said.
Stjepović said that today, thanks to the articles published in Vijesti, "we are witnessing the epilogue of a dark era in which the former regime and mafia circles entrenched themselves at the very top of our state, turning institutions into private bastions of power and control."
"This connection between power and crime was so deep that some state officials became leaders of organized crime groups, manipulators and directors of fraudulent affairs. What we are seeing now was not just a mere struggle for power or influence. Just as Italy did not succumb to the mafia, even though it paid a high price in the lives of its best people, just as France did not surrender to corruption, even though it was infected with its poison, so Montenegro will not fall before the crime that once ruled it," he adds.
He says that the "leaked messages", in which the son of former Supreme Court President Vesna Medenica, Miloš Medenica, "develops plans to destroy the life of a police officer, and attributes it all to the Democrats, do not represent just an individual act of madness".
"They are a symbol of a monstrous system of lies and manipulation, a system that was ready to destroy anyone who opposed it, regardless of the cost. It is a system that created a pyramid of crime and corruption with its peak in the highest echelons of government. But the pyramid cannot stand forever. Its foundations have long been undermined and now is the time to tear it down. But to do that, we must start from the very top. Any attempt to undermine it from the ground up risks burying us all in its ruins. If we are not determined, if we are not brave, we may become its victims," Stjepović said.
He said that Montenegro "will not fall to crime."
"We will not stop. Montenegro will not fall before crime. Just as all European countries have defeated crime and corruption, we will also defeat those who tried to conquer our homeland," the Democratic MP said.
