Dukaj: We are concerned about the unfavorable development of the situation in certain self-governments, the solution is elections in one day

The Ministry of Public Administration is concerned about the unfavorable development of the situation in certain self-governments, because the functionality of institutions is lacking and the public interest is being threatened, said Minister Maraš Dukaj.

He stated that the Law on Local Self-Government prescribes the dissolution of an assembly that fails to hold sessions, executes court decisions, or exercises its jurisdiction for more than six months.

"In Budva, the deadlines for constituting the newly elected municipal assembly after the elections held in November 2024 are still running. It is in the interest of citizens that the Budva Municipal Assembly be constituted within the legal deadline, because otherwise the President of Montenegro would have to call new, third elections in a row in that municipality in less than a year. I also point out the challenges in the Municipality of Kotor, where it has not been possible to complete the electoral process for four months, which directly threatens the functioning of local self-government," Dukaj wrote on Iks.

He appealed to relevant institutions to undertake activities within their jurisdiction to ensure citizens' right to local self-government and its lawful functioning.

"The way out of this political mess is local elections in one day and direct elections of municipal presidents," said Dukaj.
