Over the past 30 years, we have witnessed negligence, corruption and a deep connection between crime and key segments of the state apparatus, said Democratic Party MP Anđela Vojinović.

She said that today's "Vijesti" article titled "They were looking for a picture of Žuti, so they would know who to kill: A quarrel among the Skaljar people during the planning of the crime" once again opens the question - "what kind of country have we been living in for the past decades?".

"How is it possible that the security sector, which is supposed to protect citizens and the legal order, has become an accomplice in such monstrous acts? Over the past 30 years, we have witnessed negligence, corruption and a deep connection between crime and key segments of the state apparatus. The evidence that is coming to light shows that high positions in the police and secret services were occupied by people with direct or indirect ties to criminal organizations. What kind of institution is it that enables such scenarios? Who enabled structures whose primary purpose is to protect citizens to become instruments for protecting those who destroy the state and society?", Vojinović pointed out.

She asked how it was possible that members of the then governments and ministers did not know who they were electing to key positions in the security sector.

"If they knew, what responsibility do they bear for that? No one who proposed them, protected them, and was familiar with the biographies of candidates for high positions in the police and secret services and the supporting data, can today claim that they did not know. Such an excuse does not absolve anyone - it only confirms evil intent," Vojinović added.

"Let us remember Duško Jovanović, Olivera Lakić, Tufik Softić, Jelena Jovanović and many others who tried to shed light on this dark web of crime, corruption and fear," said Vojinović.

She said that their courage stands as a testimony to the deep wounds of Montenegrin society.

"They paid the price either with their lives or by being attacked while many politicians turned a blind eye or directly profited from that system. We owe our descendants a state where crime is not tolerated, where the security sector is based on integrity, not criminal interests. We must learn from the past and draw a clear line between those who protected the law and those who trampled on it," Vojinović concluded.
